Road Trip!!!!

We drove halfway back across Kansas to go to Cawker City. We absolutely had to see the World's Largest Ball of Twine.

At one time there was a larger ball of twine. The city of Cawker really wanted their ball of twine to be bigger so once a year they have a celebration where they wrap more twine around the ball.

The updated stats for the ball were inside the mailbox next to the ball that held the guest book.

I just love this picture! As you can see, the ball was outside. They built a gazebo especially for it.

This historical marker was very cool. It says, "Many moons ago, so runs and Indian legend, Waconda, a beautiful Princess, fell in love with a brave of another tribe. Prevented from marriage by blood feud, this warrior embroiled the tribes in battle. During the fight, an arrow struck him as he stood on the brink of a spring and he fell mortally wounded in to the waters. Waconda, grief stricken, plunged after him. Believing her soul still lived in the depths, the tribes for countless ages carried their sick to drink the healing waters. Here they celebrated their victories and mourned their losses, never neglecting to throw in to the spring some token for the Great Spirit."

I just thought it looked so pretty while we were driving, I took a picture.

Now entering Nebraska...

This historical marker marks where Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians made concerted attacks on wagon trains and ranches along the Oregon Trail for 400 miles. It chronicles how many people were killed and even names of some women and children who were taken captive.

This one marked the Oregon Trail, 1912.

Milford, Nebraska...The World's Largest Covered Wagon! It used to be a gas station. Now it's a store.

In Chalco, Nebraska, the World's Largest Coffee Pot at the Sapp Brother's Truck Stop.
