Our next stop, Greenburg, Kansas. They had a 2 for 1 in Greenburg. The World's Largest Pallasite Meteorite... |
...and a "Big Well." |
It was actually the World's Largest Hand-Dug Well. It was very impressive. I can't imagine digging anything that big by hand. |
Here are the stats. Began in 1887. Cost: $45,000. Completed in 1888. 109 ft. deep and32 ft. in diameter. |
When we were passing through Mullinville, we happened upon these sculptures. They're the "Sculptures Blown by the Winds of Politics." |
There were hundreds of them. They didn't seem to lean toward one political affiliation or another. |
Some were a little offensive! |
Fort Dodge was next. Established in 1865 it was a supply depot and base of operations again warring Plains Tribes. Custer, Sheridan, Miles, Hancock, "Wild Bill" Hickok and "Buffalo Bill" Cody are figures in it's history. |
They had a few old cannons and artifacts but for the most part it was a community for older veterans. |
Next to Fort Dodge was Dodge City, Kansas. They had this town set up outside of downtown. The buildings were half re-created and half original. They had LOTS of artifacts in each building. |
They even had part of the original Boot Hill. |
