You can see the different buildings in the distance. This is where the troops used to stay. Open space within the fortress where the troops used to line up. There is a water reservoir which collects rain water through a complex hydraulic system. The storage was big enough to supply water to the troops for one whole year under siege.

We stopped at the Christ of Havana statue. It was that big one we saw as the ship was pulling in to port.
You can see, the sign says it's made of Carrera marble imported from Italy. It was blessed by the XII Pope before it was shipped and blessed by Cardinal Manuel Arleaga when it arrived in Havana. It's located 51 meters above sea level and is 20 meters high. It's formed by 77 pieces that all weigh 320 tons.

bay of pigs bus cuba havana jet missile revolution tour window
There were planes and missiles on display from the Bay of Pigs. Of course, everything was on the other side of the bus. Our guide told us Cuba's version of the Bay of Pigs. How Kennedy "lost at the Bay of Pigs and was embarassed" in the eyes of the world. It was interesting hearing their point of view. He also told us how Castro was shut out by Russia in the negotiations after the Bay of Pigs. Castro took it as an insult and Cuba-Russian relations suffered.
It was just a sea of marble.

Irma was our guide inside the Necropolis Cristobal Colon. She was talking so fast that there was no time to take notes and she had no patience for stragglers or talking. She told us she had plenty of other things to do if we didn't want to hear her tour and she only had so much time. LOL!!!

The Mausoleum of the Firemen was built to commemorate the 28 firemen who died when a hardware shop in La Habana Vieja caught fire in 1890. At the top a winged angel with a blindfold, representing the Angel of Faith , holds in his arms a dying fireman, while raising the left hand to heaven, delivering the heroic life.
